Jeremy Corbyn - End Austerity Now - June 20th 2015

Salman Khan Is The Richest Celebrity In India And Beats Big "B"
By Asraful Alm PARIS

Salman Khan has emerged as the celebrity with the highest earnings in 2014, according to a Forbes list. The actor grossed earnings of Rs 244.5 crore in 2014, according to the magazine.

It is for the first time in three years since Forbes started the rankings that Shah Rukh Khan has been toppled from the top spot. Shah Rukh Khan's money ranking in 2014 dropped to number 2 with earnings of Rs 202.4 crore. His fame rank dropped to seven, leaving his overall ranking at number 3. Salman was number 1 on both counts in 2014- another first, Forbes said.

Celebrities are ranked on two counts - money and fame - in the list.

Shah Rukh's slip in the rankings was mainly owing to the fact that he had no film releases in 2014, whereas Salman Khan had two big releases in the form of Jai Ho and Kick and substantial earnings as a reality television host.

Amitabh Bachchan was second in overall ranking and third in the money rankings with earnings of Rs 196.75 crore. His fame rank was 4.

Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni was ranked at number 4 in overall ranking with earnings of Rs 141.8 crore. His money rank was 5, while his fame rank was 3.

With earnings of Rs 172 crore, actor Akshay Kumar rounded off the top 5.

Which London street is the most expensive to live on?

By:Asraful Alam, Paris

Grosvenor Crescent, near Buckingham Palace, has been named London's most expensive street to live on, according to new research by Lloyds Bank.

Home buyers who want to live in one of the prestigious crescent's white Georgian townhouses will, on average, have to shell out a whopping £16.9m.

It's located in high-end Belgravia, one of the wealthiest districts in the UK. Other expensive streets in the upmarket area include Eaton Square (£15.5m) and Chester Square (£8.3m).

Kensington and Chelsea also made it into the ranking, with four multi-million pound streets including Cadogan Square (£8.6m), Elgin Crescent (£7.7m), Egerton Crescent (7.1m) and Hillsleigh Road (£7.1m).

The Inbetweeners 2 sets box office record on day one

The Inbetweeners 2 sets box office record on day one

Teen comedy The Inbetweeners 2 took £2.7m on its opening night in UK cinemas - a record for a comedy film.

The box office haul suggests the film might be a bigger success than its predecessor, which made £2.58 on its first day in 2011.

The sequel debuted in 495 venues across the country, and scored the third-highest Wednesday opening for any film.

Only Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King have performed better.

The Inbetweeners 2 sees socially awkward school friends Will, Simon, Jay and Neil reunite for an adventure set in Australia.

Creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley said they had been caught off guard by the success of the first film, and "fan power" had persuaded them to make a sequel.

But they ruled out a third instalment, saying the current film would be the Inbetweeners' "last hurrah".

"It would be nice to go out on top," actor Simon Bird (Will) told the BBC

"We only considered doing the script because the script was as funny, if not funnier, than the first one."

Arizona mother defends leaving children in 'hot car'

Arizona mother defends leaving children in 'hot car'

A US mother has defended her decision to leave her two young children in a 'hot car' whilst she attended a job interview.

Shanesha Taylor, a 35-year-old single mother from Arizona, thought she would be leaving the children, aged six months and two, for 15 minutes but the interview overran to 40.

On returning, she was arrested, her children were taken into custody, and she was charged with felony child abuse - which carries a maximum total prison sentence of 14 years.

However, Ms Taylor, who was unemployed and "surviving on food stamps" at the time, said it was a choice between giving them future "security" and caring for them "at that moment".

Rio Tinto profits rise as debts and costs are lowered

Rio Tinto profits rise as debts and costs are lowered

Anglo-Australian mining group Rio Tinto has reported a 21% rise in half-year profits to $5.1bn (£3bn).

Rio has been cutting back debts built up in a surge of acquisitions under previous chief executive Tom Albanese.

Sam Walsh, who replaced Mr Alabanese 18 months ago, said net debt had been cut by $6bn from a year ago.

He said: "We delivered what we said we would, exceeding our $3bn operating cash cost reduction target six months ahead of schedule."

In July, Rio announced it would sell off its Mozambique coal assets for just $50m, part of Riversdale Mining which it bought for $3.7bn in 2011.

In the past six months it has cut its workforce by 2,200, and Mr Walsh said although another $1bn would be cut from costs by the end of next year, the rate of savings would slow this year.

Chinese demand

Mr Walsh said the group shipped record iron ore volumes, and set production records for iron ore and thermal coal.

The company is increasing its six-month dividend to shareholders by 15%.

But a slump in commodity prices because of a slowdown in demand from China sliced $1.39bn from underlying earnings.

Much of the reduction in Chinese demand for iron ore came from the slowing construction industry.

Rio now sees the slack there being taken up by renewed demand for machinery and infrastructure and China's own exports of finished steel products.

It expects steel demand in China to grow 3-4% this year.

Six ways to blow a million pounds

You’ve been bequeathed a small fortune from your wealthiest client, had a hefty pay rise, or just found out that your golden handshake makes Angela Ahrendts’ look like small change. All to worry about now is how to spend it… Thank goodness, then, that Laura Powell is on hand to bring you six of the best ways to fritter away that extra £1m

1. Treat yourself to two car parking spaces in Knightsbridge. The bad news is, had you bought them one year ago they would have been a whopping 31% cheaper. But the good news is, at £400,000 a pop you’ll have enough leftover change to loan a private box at the Royal Albert Hall, which is just around the corner. To snap them up, contact estate agents Hobart Slater.

2. Nine shares in Berkshire Hathaway. Betting is a mug’s game. Instead pour your spoils into a surefire bet – nine shares in celebrity stock picker Warren Buffett’s property and insurance conglomerate, Berkshire Hathaway. When this article was published, shares were priced at $191,300 (£114,000), making them the most expensive stocks in the world.

3. One night with Beyoncé. The price for a private performance from the singer has shot up since 2005 – from £750,000 (how much Sir Philip Green reportedly paid for Beyoncé to perform at his son’s Bar Mitzvah) to more than £1m. Or roughly £200,000 per song... Alternatively you could hire George Michael, Tom Jones or Rod Stewart for a similar fee. Unfortunately, the Eagles are out of your price range. Rumour has it, they charged almost £4m to perform Hotel California at a private party…

4. Join the world’s poshest dog owners club. At £1.2m a piece, they’re slightly over budget. And at 90kg, they’re a touch overweight too. But owning a Tibetan mastiff is an instant status symbol (in China) and gives you automatic membership to the elite Tibetan mastiff owner’s club, whose members include a multi-millionaire Chinese property developer and a coal baron.

5. A new Hermes Birkin every month for the next four years. At £17,800 a piece (from Matches), the vintage Birkin 40 is a steal with a budget your size. So you could invest in a new one every month, each in a different colour. Or you could mix it up and vary your monthly buys – perhaps The Row’s Alligator tote (£24,218) for August, and Ralph Lauren’s Alligator Ricky (£17,145) for September.

6. Migrate to Necker Island for winter. Exclusive use of Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island in the Caribbean will set you back £39,000 – for one night. So for £1m, you could afford to migrate there for the best part of January. With energy bills skyrocketing in the UK, we can’t think of a more sensible investment.
